Scene Haircut Styles

Do it the “emo” way!

So you have been hearing this word a lot but you still don’t know what it really means?  Well, no worries, help is here! Here’s all you need to know about the “emo hairstyle”. Most people do not have a clear idea about it, often you will hear terms like “scene hairstyle” and “fringes” all being used (and very wrongly so!) as interchangeable words when in reality they may be quite different.

So what is exactly an “emo haircut”?

A little boring history at first! It is actually a form of rock music, which was adopted by the America’s punk bands. Gradually the word has evolved and is used to refer to ideas and concepts related to culture and even fashion. In the world of style and fashion the “emo” hairstyle hugely popular and is considered one of the trendiest. So if you have the attitude then you absolutely cannot go wrong with this one!

Emo as in the musical form has always been related to expressing oneself, and the breaking of stereotypes. So if you are bored of the conventional haircuts “emo” is the way you should go!  An emo hairstyle will typically have straightened hair cut in the form of fringes or bangs that fall over your face at an angle, covering one or both of your eyes. In “scene hairstyles” the hair may cover a lesser portion of the face, apart from this and some other minute details there is really not much difference between them. The overall effect is akin to the punk look and may occasionally border on gothic.

This is the very basic framework of the hairstyle. The reason why it is called “emo” is that you can be yourself with it; you can break the rules and let your creativity run loose. “Emo” as by now you must have guessed stands for “emotion”, your emotions, as you would like to express them!

How creative can you get?

Well there is a lot you can do, though most people prefer the  “emo” fringes to be colored black, nowadays many opt for bright highlights. You can choose from a variety of colors whichever catches your fancy but make sure it goes with your skin tone, after all there’s a difference between having an attitude and being a fashion disaster. Red, purple and blue are the current favorites because after all what’s the point in getting an adventurous cut and then highlighting it with tame shades! But some who are not so courageous can keep it black and couple it with heavy kohl lined eyes for an entirely dramatic look. It is in fact the very flexible nature of this style which allows the individual to surface, it lets people see, not a fashion victim but the real you!

If you’re the spunky type then you can go for the short emo scene haircut, this would be a short cropped style at the back and long asymmetrical bangs in front brushed on one side of the face, the longer variety is preferred by girls, which is basically long bangs brushed to one side, framing your face. The shorter one needless to say is low maintenance.

Is it right for you?

That’s definitely for you to decide but if you can carry it off then there’s nothing to hold you back. Even those having curly or frizzy hair can enjoy this look. The huge varieties of hair care products, which are available, have made the emo look accessible to all. If you have curly hair then you would need to straighten it with straightener, you can also use gels to give your bangs a different spiky look each day. “Boring” will definitely be out of your vocabulary for some time!
